As we journey through life, we often reflect on the choices we made and the lessons we learned along the way. If given the chance, many of us would love to have a conversation with our younger selves, offering guidance and wisdom gained from experience. Below are four important pieces of advice I would share with my younger self; sharing the lessons learned and the growth that comes with time.
Embrace Your Authenticity – It is easy to get caught up in societal expectations and pressures, but staying true to oneself is crucial for personal growth and happiness. Embrace your quirks, passions, and unique qualities. Don’t be afraid to stand out or be different from others. Remember that your individuality is what makes you special and will lead you to find your true purpose in life.
Take Risks and Embrace Failure – It is essential to emphasize the importance of taking risks and embracing failure. Fear of failure often holds us back from pursuing our dreams and exploring new opportunities. However, failure is not something to be feared but rather embraced as a stepping stone towards success. It is through failure that we learn valuable lessons, gain resilience, and discover our true strengths. So, take risks, step out of your comfort zone, and don’t be afraid to fail. Each failure will bring you closer to your goals.
Cultivate Healthy Relationships – Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you. Choose friends who share similar values and aspirations, and who encourage you to be the best version of yourself (Your Tribe). Remember that toxic relationships can drain your energy and hinder personal growth. Learn to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships and have the courage to let go of those that do not serve your well-being.
Make Self-Care A Priority – You cannot pore from an empty cup. Your Health is your Wealth! If you donโt take care of your health, you will not be able to achieve your goals and aspirations and fulfil your God given gift. In any 24 hour day, you work for 8 hours a day (8-4 or 9-5), 1 hour a day to get ready, 3 hours a day for breakfast, lunch and Dinner, 8 Hours a day for family duties ie kids, spouse, cleaning the home etc and there is 4 hours left. Make use of the 4 hours a day for YOURSELF. Do an exercise routine, watch your favorite shows, read a book; whatever makes you happy and leaves you feeling relaxed and recharged.
This reflecting is a powerful exercise that allows us to acknowledge our growth and share wisdom gained from experience. While we cannot change the past, we can use these lessons to shape our present and future, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
So share with me your thoughts. If you had the opportunity to talk to your younger self, what advice would you share with him/her?
