Change is a constant process and part of being human. When you embark on changing anything in your life, start from where you are. Until you know where that is, it would be difficult to effectively make the change. You have to start with a baseline.
Starting with a baseline is about figuring out where you are and what you are doing so that you know exactly what needs to be changed. Actually, many of us are unaware of what we do. However, finding a way to track what you do works. It is like preparing a to-do-list, the only difference is that you have already done the work. This process allows you to have a clear picture of where you are and what needs to change.
My dream to launch my company and launch my website took a very long time in the making. Besides fear of what the naysayers would say and self-doubt, I had to understand where I was and where I wanted to be; keeping in mind my main objective which is to impact lives by sharing my story.
Have you ever tracked how much time you would have spent going through social media, checking your emails, checking whatsapps messages and watching television? I recently found out you can check your phone to see how much time you would have spent on it. For those who did not know, go to ‘Settings’ then go to ‘Digital Wellbeing’. It actually gives you the exact amount of hours per day or week. A very useful tool.
Change brings awareness. You have to become aware of what you are doing and exactly where you are before you can proceed forward. Keeping a log for a week or two will provide you with valuable information that will support your change effort and will also give you a realistic idea of what you are doing.
You can track anything from how much money you spend to how many hours of sleep you get. Once you know the truth about where you are you can proceed.
Have you discovered your baseline? We would love to here from you. Send us your comments.
