Feeling Your Emotions

Allowing your body to feel each emotion and to identify each feeling is ok. Some people may think that is a form of weakness. However, the truth is, it is ok to experience these feelings to begin the healing process.

Recently, I was called to a meeting to be told my position in the company I currently work for was made redundant.

I can tell you every emotion showed up: anxiety, fear, sadness, disgust, anger, hurt, you name it, I felt it.

Society expects us to be brave and strong and to appear normal but everyone deals with things differently. Some people may behave aggressively, some may get very quiet and some appear to be zoned out.

As soon as the meeting was officially over, those said emotions surfaced and I began to cry.

You see, it is important to feel your emotions, as your body starts to analyze the background of each one in all its degrees of awareness. It is really a matter of skillfully feeling your feelings.

In this particular moment the negative feelings surpassed the positive feelings.

Here are three techniques I had to utilize to manage my feelings:

  • Self talk was used to bring me to a
    comfortable place of acceptance.
  • Positive affirmations to ensure my
confidence stayed at an all time high.
  • Allow my body to go through each
emotion so as to analyze the feeling.

These 3 techniques are crucial when you begin to feel deflated and in the absence of any support system, you are able to begin your own healing process.

These techniques worked for me but it may not work for everyone. The important thing to note is that the processing must be done and if you are unable to cope, please seek professional help.

Never be afraid of the overwhelming feelings; it is part of the process. Reach out to your tribe, anyone who can give you the desired support.

There is an old saying that everything happens for a reason. Trusting the process and having faith in your higher being will definitely give you comfort.

Life has peaks and valleys and it is within our valleys we are tested but do not despair.
